Sexually Transmitted Deceases
Sexually transmitted diseases or STDs are very serious issues in the 20th century. The risk of contracting HIV, for example, is very high at these times because of polygamous relationships practiced by a number of modern people. There are many kinds of STDs, and the cause could be bacterial, viral, fungal or parasitic. Depending on the type of infection, the seriousness, course of disease and treatment process will vary. Contributing to the troubles of STD infections is the idea that the microbes involved in these infections mutate with the times. With this realization, cures and treatments need to be modified and to be studied continuously of their effectiveness.
One of the most popular STDs is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS. It has been noted 20 years ago but there is still no known treatment of this disease. Millions have died because of this disease. AIDS is caused by the contraction of human immunodeficiency virus or HIV. This virus originated from monkeys and eventually has infected the human race. It is a syndrome because death usually occurs from simplistic and opportunistic infections that patients suffer from. In general, AIDS lowers the immune system’s responses to infections, and so, a common flu can already be a deadly infection to somebody who is immuno-compromised.

Another commonly spread infection is caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). Once the individual acquires this virus, it can cause an infection with no sign or symptom seen. This virus can harbor on the cervical lining in women and in stages, cause the growth of cancer cells. HPV has been a known culprit for cervical cancers and other tumors. Proper contraception must be practiced to avoid the spread of this virus.
There are other STDs and STIs that have existed histories ago. Gonorrhea, syphilis, genital warts, trichomoniasis, yeast infections and others are caused by bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections. Most of these can be treated by over-the-counter medications or a trip to your doctor may be very helpful. However, just knowing that you can actually prevent these infections from happening to you should be understood. Prevention is the best form of treatment for STDs.
And, what are ways of preventing STDs? First and most effective of all is through abstinence. Abstaining from sexual intercourse can not only prevent the spread of infections, but also contribute to a childless lifestyle. Second, having a monogamous relationship may help in this area. Having a steady partner and knowing each other’s sexual histories are ways of preventing STDs. Plus, you develop trust in your relationship as you stay committed to one person. Third, proper use of barrier methods of contraception should be practiced. These barrier methods include specifically the male or female condoms. These are the only forms that protect both partners from STDs when used and fitted properly.
