Abstinence
The best and most effective way of preventing pregnancies and not getting infected with sexually transmitted infections is abstinence. Only with abstinence can people control their lives and decide on their responsibilities and priorities in life.
But abstinence does require an individual to not engage in sexual intercourse. Abstinence demands a strong sense of self-control and self-discipline.
Living a life without sexual contact can be a challenging situation. But the benefits of not getting into sex are worth it. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and infections abound wherever you go. In fact, many people engaging in casual sex and polygamous relationships have resulted to the increase of STD cases worldwide. Additionally, global population has tripled because of unplanned pregnancies. If you think highly of your health and the health of your children, practicing abstinence may prolong your life and save your unborn child’s life in the process. In some contraceptive methods like fertility awareness, abstinence is temporarily required to make the method effective.

Abstinence
The occurrence of STDs is a growing concern among many countries. In fact, the advocacy to practice safe sex if abstinence is not practiced is greatly supported at these times. Sex education should not only deal with the contraceptive options available in the market, but also realize that sex is not to be taken casually. In so doing, abstinence can still be practiced and be viewed as a “cool” alternative especially when the people curious about sex have little knowledge about the subject.
Abstinence does not strictly suggest the absence of intimacy in its totality. You can still enjoy and express your affections to your partner by involving in intimate activities. These may include kissing, hugging and spooning. In a more intimate situation, having light outercourse can be a way of abstaining from the real deed. However, as discussed, outercourse should be left minimal and subtle so that the temptation of “doing it” will not be entertained.
Truly, abstaining the sexual act is a challenging time especially for people constantly bombarded with sexually suggestive media and peer influences. However, you can truly get out of it and you can be a more creative partner in terms of pleasing your partner without sexual intercourse.
Now, most people might not prefer abstinence over other contraceptive options, but the benefits give lesser emotional stress when thinking of unplanned pregnancies and the contraction of STDs.
